Every family has the one bag that goes to the masjid every night of Ramadan. By the third night it holds a prayer mat, two water bottles, half a pack of wipes, a crayon with no paper, and somebody's single sock. If you are taking children to Taraweeh this year, a little planning turns that bag from a jumble into a small act of care for your family and for everyone praying around you.
Here is our Taraweeh bag checklist for parents, built around real nights at the masjid with little ones.
When to order for Ramadan 2027
- Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around Monday 8 February (the first Taraweeh is the night before), depending on the moon sighting.
- Best time to order: November or December 2026. Everything is printed to order, and the holiday rush from mid-November through January makes production and shipping slower, so ordering early gives you plenty of breathing room.
- Final cut-off: Wednesday 20 January. This is the last day to order for delivery before Ramadan with standard shipping; after this we can't guarantee arrival.
- 21 to 25 January: priority shipping only, so choose it at checkout.
- Every AdabStars piece is printed to order in the USA, usually within 2 to 5 business days, then shipped. These dates are our best estimate and we will update this post if our print partner's holiday deadlines change them.
Why a Dedicated Taraweeh Bag Helps
Taraweeh is the night prayer of Ramadan, prayed after Isha. With children, those evenings are long, and the difference between a calm night and a hard one is often what you remembered to pack. A bag that lives by the front door and is restocked each morning means you are not hunting for socks at 8 pm. It also gives children a job: they can check the list and carry the bag in. Older kids can even carry their own, like the This Is My Masjid Bag Kids Tote Bag, or the Official Taraweeh Snack Supplier Tote Bag for the one in charge of snacks.
The Taraweeh Bag Checklist
For the Prayer
- A thin, foldable travel prayer mat (useful in overflow rooms)
- Clean socks for everyone, plus one spare pair
- A light layer or shawl for the prayer hall
- A small mushaf or a Qur'an app on a phone set to silent
- A small shoe bag, so shoes do not get lost on the racks
For the Kids
- A named water bottle for each child
- Quiet, low-crumb snacks: dates, crackers or soft granola bars
- Wipes and tissues (you will use more than you think)
- One or two quiet activities: a picture book, a sticker book or a coloring pad with crayons
- A small blanket or a hoodie for the child who falls asleep
- For toddlers: diapers, a change of clothes and a sealable bag
For the child who always drifts off before the last rak'ah, the Fast Asleep Kids Hoodie is both the cozy layer and the joke.

For You
- Phone on silent, and car keys in an inside pocket
- A little cash or coins for the masjid's sadaqah box, so the children can drop it in
- Hand sanitizer
- Patience, which is the one item that always runs low by the last ten nights
For a February Ramadan
Ramadan 2027 falls in February, so in much of North America and Europe the walk from the parking lot will be cold. Add hats, gloves and a warm coat for each child, and keep a spare hoodie in the car. A warm Ramadan layer like the Little Lantern Ramadan Kids Hoodie or the First to the Masjid Kids Hoodie makes that walk a little more fun.
Making Taraweeh Easier with Kids
- Check the masjid's rules first. Ask whether there is a family area or a children's room, and where food is allowed.
- Sit near the back or the side. It makes quick, quiet exits easy.
- Set expectations in the car. Tell children how long you plan to stay, and that it is fine to leave after a few rak'ahs on a school night.
- Leave the space clean. Pick up wrappers and crumbs before you go. Teaching children to care for the masjid is part of the lesson.
- Restock every morning. Refill water, snacks and wipes so the bag is ready again by Isha.
Choosing the Bag Itself
Any sturdy tote will do, but a bag that says what it is for makes the routine part of the fun. Our Ramadan and Taraweeh tote bags are 15 x 16 inch canvas totes, roomy enough for prayer mats, water, snacks, wipes and a spare sweater. The Taraweeh Bag Checklist tote ($24.99) has the list printed right on it: snacks, water, wipes and patience. The This Is My Taraweeh Bag tote ($24.99) says it in big, bold letters, and the Masjid Mom Bag and Masjid Dad Bag ($24.99 each) let both parents carry their share. Each is printed on both sides, so the design shows whichever way it faces. For something different, the Packed for Taraweeh Tote Bag, the Taraweeh Survival Kit Tote Bag and the Ramadan Nights Bag Tote Bag are in the same collection, and the This Is My Masjid Bag Tote Bag works all year for Jummah and weekend school.

A Taraweeh tote also makes a thoughtful pre-Ramadan gift for a new parent, a grandparent who takes the grandchildren to the masjid, or the friend who always has a spare snack. For the rest of your preparations, see our Ramadan 2027 Countdown. For a grandparent, the Taraweeh Arabic and English Tote Bag is a calm, simple choice, and the Masjid Mom Survival Kit Tote Bag is made for the parent who packs for everyone.
The nights will not always go to plan. Someone will spill water, and someone will fall asleep before the second rak'ah. But children who spend Ramadan nights at the masjid grow up feeling at home there, and that is worth every packed snack.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does Taraweeh start in 2027?
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around Monday 8 February, so the first Taraweeh is expected on the evening of Sunday 7 February. The date depends on the moon sighting, so check with your local masjid.
Can I bring young children to Taraweeh?
Policies differ from one masjid to another. Some have a family area or a supervised children's room, and others ask that very young children stay home. Ask your masjid before the first night.
What snacks are best for kids at the masjid?
Choose quiet, low-crumb snacks such as dates, crackers or soft granola bars, and avoid noisy wrappers and anything sticky. Many masajid ask families to eat only in a hall or lobby, not in the prayer area.
Should I bring my own prayer mat to Taraweeh?
It helps. Main prayer halls are usually carpeted, but on busy nights families are often sent to overflow rooms or a gym floor. A thin travel mat folds into a tote easily.
How big is a Taraweeh tote bag?
Our Taraweeh totes are 15 x 16 inch canvas bags, roomy enough for a folded prayer mat, water bottles, snacks, wipes and a spare sweater.
